One year after the explosion that rocked Beirut on Aug. 4, 2020, there are still no answers about who is responsible for one of the biggest non-nuclear blasts in history.

Lebanese television station MTV (unrelated to U.S.-based music channel MTV) is demanding justice from officials through its “#WeAreUnbreakable” campaign, created by TBWA\RAAD. The work portrays the victims of the blast in shattered glass.

The team enlisted Swiss glass artist Simon Berger to create the portraits. He traveled to Lebanon and visited the explosion site and some of the victims’ family members to learn the stories he would bring to life through his special technique.

The process involved Berger using a tool to deploy the force of his hammer onto sheets of glass that were recycled from the explosion.
