A voice from the paint

You may remember “The Next Rembrandt”, JWT Amsterdam’s multi-award winning campaign for ING bank, which used artificial intelligence to create a “new” painting by the Dutch master. Now, by analysing 350 self-portraits and combining them with knowledge of the way Dutch was spoken in the era, the agency has given Rembrandt a voice. Not only that, but it has enabled him to give us painting lessons! Imagine sitting beside a legend as you take up your brush? (Actually it sounds a bit daunting.) Voice recreation is trending, by the way: in a campaign for the latest season of French TV show Versailles, Louis XIV got his voice back. It’s a small world. But you wouldn’t want to paint it.
