Meet the Interns: DDB SF's Rinny Shim

Tell us about your internship, what are your main responsibilities?

As the production intern at DDB, I create production calendars, schedule meetings, coordinate with creatives, and work with all of the departments to solve problems.

Do you have a dream account or brand you’d like to work with? Which one?

I would love to work with Nike or Adidas. I know it’s kind of contradictory, but I love both sports brands and I’ve been a loyal customer to both as a student athlete.

Talk to us about the culture in your office, how has it impacted your internship?

I think the company culture has made the biggest impact on my internship. I can honestly say I have found the greatest co-interns and mentors I could have ever asked for. I love coming into work every day and learning so much from everybody, all while having lots of fun.

What have you learned about the advertising industry that surprised you?

As this is my first internship in the advertising industry, I have found to love the quick pace of everything. All of our projects have a very quick turnaround rate and I love that. It keeps me on my toes and ready to be a problem-solver.

Choose a current popular advertising trend and tell us what’s interesting about it:

I think a current popular advertising trend has to be the ads featuring empowering women. The feminist movement as a whole has been in the media a lot and I’ve loved seeing how brands have decided to highlight these fabulous female figures.

Imagine your dream job, where are you, what does a day-to-day look like?

My dream job would be based in San Francisco, working at an advertising agency making a real difference in the world. I ultimately would want to make an impact on the world and through my work find ways to make positive strides towards a better future.

Are you considering another internship, or looking for jobs now? What are your next steps?

I have to go back to school for one last semester, but will proactively be searching for a full time opportunity for the next year.

What is your favorite ad of all time?

Hands down it would have to be the PG&E Olympic advertisements. I love the stories that they bring showcasing the athletes, the moms, and the all-around humanizing stories of the Olympians.
