#CuriositySessions: Leticia Trindade

Q – What are you curious about?
Things that make me feel happy awaken my curiosity. I like to learn about how to live better. I think living energetically is contagious and being able to share your own curiosity and inspiration with others makes for a fun and interesting experience for everyone. The topics that I am most curious about right now are travel, nutrition and internal communication, one of my fields of work.

Q – Why is curiosity so important?
Curiosity is important because it’s what opens up the world to you. It gives you the freedom you need to go after the things that matter to you, even if you don’t know what those things are. Curiosity is what drives you to discover new things, to open your mind and in doing this, it also makes you a wiser person.

Q – What does it mean to be curious?
It means to not limit your thoughts. Children are a great example of this. They don’t set limits or feel shy about their thoughts. Their imagination prompts them to ask many questions, which in turn lead to new thoughts. All of that becomes a network of information that can be surprisingly complex to us. As we grow older, we tend to make judgments and have preconceptions about everything and everyone. This inhibits curiosity. Being curious means being open, setting no limits to the world, diving right in!

Q – If you could talk with anyone for five minutes, who would it be and why?
I’d like to talk with Felipe Pereira, the author of “Jovem o suficiente” (Young enough). At 19 he realized that his plans, dreams and goals could be lost when he saw that everyone around him had grown into adults and given up on old dreams, and that they now focused on work, school, bills to pay, dating etc. He then decided to pack all of his belongings in a backpack and travel around the world for a year. He did this not only to get to know new places, but also to go on a quest for his own youth. Like me, Felipe wants to give less importance and weight to worldly things. It would be inspiring to hear his stories about the places he visited and the people he met along the way. I would be especially curious to hear about the less touristy places and ask him about what it was like to go on such an incredible journey at such a young age.

Inspired by J. Walter Thompson Company’s upcoming Cannes seminar, “Curiosity and A Curious Mind,” a one-on-one conversation about curiosity with Brian Grazer and Worldwide CCO Matt Eastwood, we decided to ask people across our network what curiosity means to them. — Find out more about the “Curiosity and A Curious Mind” seminar here and contribute your own curiosity story with the hashtags #CuriositySessions and #CannesLions.
