История Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan, a state once closed for the global integration. In the past few years, due to political changes, country finally opened its doors to the world. So, Tashkent really needed a fresh and attractive image for its citizens, investors and tourists. Tashkent is a very hospitable city where everyone literally keeps doors opened. So, the opened doors have become our universal symbol that represents discoveries, the soul of citizens and also hints on origins of the city (12 city gates). New identity is scalable and can be easily applied to any city communications. Brief: In 2018 the Public Council of Tashkent announced an open competition for the development of the city logo & identity. The main goal of all applicants was to develop a universal graphic system that would unite a wide range of governmental institutions, events and communications. The new identity should create a fresh and attractive image for citizens, investors and tourists. Design solution: Tashkent is a very hospitable city where everyone literally keeps doors opened. So, the opened doors have become our universal symbol that represents discoveries, the soul of citizens and also hints on origins of the city gates. The sign can easily be transformed depending on the conditions and direction of communications, applied to any objects, from urban infrastructure to cultural events. Cultural context: The patterns and symbols in logo reflect the architecture, cuisine and motifs of mixed Uzbek, Asian and Soviet culture. For example, the forms and brutality of the graphics are the heritage of Unique Soviet Modernism in Tashkent.
